Hope Reins

for a better tomorrow

Meet the "Support Staff" of Hope Reins!

       "Brandy"                  "Pee Wee"              "Bud"

Brandy is an 8 year old Tennessee Walking Horse who we consider the answer to a prayer which pushed forward the creation of Hope Reins.  Brandy was given over to Hope Reins in July 2006.  Despite the love of her owner, she was no longer able to be given the proper care and attention she required due to her sudden loss of eye sight to "moon blindness."  She is known for her "chunky" figure, nuzzling visitors with her nose as if to see them in her own way and her sweet demeanor.   Although she is blind, she remains very independent and can be ridden.  She brings something special to all those who visit her. Brandy currently lives at Grey Lady Farm in Blaine, where she will stay until Hope Reins moves into its permanent location.

Pee Wee is a 13 year old registered Paint/Quarter Horse who was donated to Kingswood School in October 2003.  Prior to coming to Kingswood, he was used used as a barrel racer, injuring his hoof - permanently causing a crack up the side of the hoof.  This left him considered "undesirable" in the horse community, causing him to be sold.  He then was purchased for a girl who needed help coming out of her shell and they both found healing by love in their friendship. When she had to go off to college, her family was kind enough to contact Kingswood, knowing what a gift Pee Wee had that others could not see due to his hoof.  Pee Wee is full of personality, attitude and a love for children.  Although it may seem his role model is Eeyore most times, don't let this foul you.  He loves showing off for the girls!  He watches and listens for them to notice and laugh at him as he takes running spells through the field, bucking, kicking (with the occassional gastrointestinal slip) and silly "horse play" when feeling the need for extra attention.

Bud is a 15 year old Saddlebred who was purchased in the Summer of 2005 by Kingswood School at a horse sale in Kingsport, Tennessee after he was attempted to be purchased by a known buyer for a horse slaughter company.  Two years ago, Bud lost one eye due to an  accidental injury, but has recovered and adapted well with many prayers from staff to children.  He is truly the class clown! His spirited nature is wonderful to watch.  However it is his ADHD behavior and desire to please others and receive praise that the children find themselves relating to.  He is always looking for something to get into and loves to use his nose much like a the fingers of a little child exploring everything in reach, especially things that shine.  His eating manners are not much better as he is always willing to "share" with anyone willing to wear it.

*Although Kingswood School owns Pee Wee and Bud, Hope Reins has agreed to provide for their care, including farrier services, feed, shavings, tack and other expenses so that the youth residing at Kingswood can continue to receive the benefits of these horses and our program.
